The inaugural China Macau International Yacht Import & Export Fair (Macau Yacht Fair) was held at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf from October 27 to 30, 2011. Co-organized by Nam Kwong Group, Macau Convention & Exhibition Association (MCEA) and China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach), the fair received strong support from the Macau SAR Government, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), and State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Francis Tam Pak Yuen, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macau, attended the opening ceremony and together pushed the button to kick start the fair. With a total exhibition area of more than 100,000m2, the Macau Yacht Fair attracted more than 30 top yacht brands from 15 countries and over 50,000 visitors. It was covered by nearly 100 media organizations, including CCTV, Phoenix Satellite Television, The Travel Channel, Yachts magazine and China Ship News from the Chinese mainland, Macau Daily News, Overseas Chinese Daily News and other Macau-based media, as well as Yacht Style, Tetra Media and Fragrant Harbour from Hong Kong. The Macau Yacht Fair brought together international brands such as Maiora, Italyachts, Sunseeker, Azimut, Beneteau, Pricess, Meridian, Pershing and Prout, as well as yacht makers and agents like Simpson Marine. Nine orders were placed on the spot, and initial agreements were reached with 108 customers. Brands such as Azimut, King’O and Prout received a host of orders, and Prout alone grabbed more than 20 potential customers. The fair featured more than 50 Chinese and foreign supermodels, fantastic Bikini parties, and two yacht girl shows per day, attracting a large number of photographers and visitors. The national youth motorboat team of China delivered two breathtaking performances a day, wining rounds of applause. With the attention and guidance from authorities and generous support from partners and all sectors of society, the Macau Yacht Fair would promote the moderate diversification of Macau’s economy and the development of the exhibition industry, and play an active role in boosting the tourism and yacht industries. |
