The 2016 China (Macau) Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum kicked off at The Venetian Macau on July 28, 2016. The forum was jointly sponsored by Nam Kwong Group, Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd ., Exchange and Cooperation Center with Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Bureau of Guangdong Province, and was organized by Nam Kwong International Conference & Exhibition Co., Ltd. Ding Rongxiang, Vice Chairman of Nam Kwong Group, spoke at the opening ceremony. More than 600 people attended the forum, including officials of the ministries and commissions under the State Council, officials of Hong Kong and Macau, traditional Chinese medicine masters, domestic and foreign experts, representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries, and representatives from enterprises.

As Ding Rongxiang said in his address, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a long history and represents the wisdom of our ancestors, and this forum focuses on addressing key topics including human health and development of the TCM industry and spreading the TCM culture among the general public. Macau has a rich TCM culture, and TCM is widely accepted by the residents, especially Chinese people. As a starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, Macau is expected to become an important platform for international exchanges on TCM. The TCM industry has received policy support, and been regarded by the Macau SAR Government as an important direction to diversify the economy. The 2016 China (Macau) Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum takes place at the right time, and accords with Macau’s direction of developing the TCM industry and its strategy of giving priority to the development of the convention industry.

Ding Rongxiang als noted that as the largest central enterprise based in Macau, Nam Kwong Group would leverage its advantages in mobilizing and pooling resources, and do its due part in promoting the development of the TCM industry and the convention and exhibition industry of Macau.

In light of the country’s deployments for overseas development of the TCM industry during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), the forum takes international exchanges and cooperation on TCM under the Belt and Road Initiative as the main line, and focuses on such topics as TCM international registration techniques and policies, international medicine management regulations, international market analysis and business development strategy,  TCM healthcare, TCM wellness tourism, and TCM cultural exchanges. In addition to the key forum, there were three parallel sessions on TCM international registration, TCM wellness tourism international cooperation, and the Belt and Road Initiative and TCM international cooperation, one special forum on the use of TCM for diabetes prevention and control, two roundtable meetings themed “the development direction and strategy of the TCM industry” and “TCM international business expansion”, as well as TCM park tours. Six agreement signing ceremonies and the advisor employment ceremony of Guangdong-Macau TCM Technology Industrial Park (GMTCM Park) were also held.
