9th China Macao international yacht fair sees record high transactions

The ninth China Macao International Yacht Import and Export Fair, jointly sponsored by Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited, China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd. (Sinomach) and Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, and organized by Nam Kwong International Convention and Exhibition Ltd., wrapped up at Macao Fishermans Wharf on October 27. The fair displayed close to 30 yachts, two of which were super large ones measuring over 100 feet. The four-day event attracted more than 20,000 visitors in total. Among them, over 500 representatives of the yacht industry and from the government came for visit and forums, another 300 were purchasers from the real estate, finance and trade industries. They made exchanges and closed deals with partners at the fair. On the first day, a million-Hong Kong-dollar deal was inked. A record high of more than 50 tentative deals on purchase of yachts and water sports products were made. Of them, 12 were transaction agreement with strong intents.  

   Close to 30 yachts on display and impressive transaction volume

With its land and water exhibition space covering close to 30,000 square meters, the fair attracted close to 30 yachts by internationally renowned brands like Azimut, Absolute, JEANNEAU, Ferritti, MCY and GALEON. The most eye-catching were two luxury ones measuring over 100 feet - Sunseeker 140FTand JETPON 110FT. The time-honored Macao sailboat Xiangjiang 1 with a history of more than 40 years was invited to cheer for the fair. In addition, local firms like Huihang Yacht Service Company and LANDG Group Limited and Macao Sailing Association supported the fair by showcasing their yachts. Mainland exhibitors added a boost to the fair as more than 30 yacht making, yacht tourist service providers and trade associations like Xiamen Jiepeng Yacht Ltd., East Sea Yacht Ltd., Ounier Yacht, China Sailing Association and Zhongshan Shengshi Yacht Association attended the event.

Transactions made at the fair set a record high. On the first day, Zhuhai Feichi Ship Technology Co., Ltd. inked a million-Hong Kong-dollar deal as it sold a 7.2-meter FC yacht worth of 1 million Hong Kong dollars. As the fair closed, more than 50 tentative deals on purchase of yachts and water sports products were made. Of them, 12 were transaction agreement with strong intents. China Pacific Marine had 13 tentative purchase deals for JEANNEAU410 and JEANNEAU440. Ounier had seven purchase deals for GALEON 50FT. Marine Italia Limited had two deals for Azimut 60FT. Huaxing (China) Yacht Ltd. had five deals for SeaRay. And other exhibitors also had developed clients of different numbers.

The 2019 (Macao) high-level forum on yacht industry in the Asia Pacific region was held at the Harborview Hotel in Macao on the afternoon of October 25. The forum gathered more than 80 guests from Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Xiamen, Sanya and Singapore. A total of 11 big names in the yacht industry shared their insightful views on site. Wang Yong, general manager of the development planning department of Nam Kwong and Liu Xiaobo, director of the ship office under the equipment industry department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the forum.  

The forum highlighted theme speeches and group discussions revolving around three topics of boosting sailboat and yacht economy, the development of yacht industry in the Greater Bay Area and the development of maritime economy. Andy Treadwell, who initiated the exhibition for Singaporean and Thai yachts, expressed hopes of boosting yacht industry with down-to-top ideas, top-to-down policies and cross-region and cross-sector cooperation when wrapping up the forum. With the synergy of regional resources and the entire industry, common prosperity could be achieved, he said.

In concluding, Gan Ailing, project manager of Nam Kwong Culture and Creativity Industry Co., Ltd., on behalf of the organizing committee of the fair, and Li Chunqiang, general manager of Jiepeng Group, on behalf of Hainan yacht industry, signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in promoting free independent yacht tours between Hainan and Macao. This signified the two sides would take the new opportunities and deepen cooperation in yacht industry and integration of maritime economy to facilitate in-depth cooperation and long-term development between Hainan and Macao in tourism, economy and culture.

 Interactive water experience and sailing games push the event to climax

This years fair offered visitors interactive water experience activities, where they could have a close view on yachts and sailboats and get onboard to visit the cabin. Macao time-honored sailboat Xiangjiang 1 was also open to the public and took 30 lucky visitors a tour on the sea every day to enjoy the urban view of Macao and coastal Hengqin in Zhuhai. Those onboard were also offered a chance to hoist the sail. This activity was widely acclaimed by visitors. The fairs repertoire Bikini show and surfboard performance were staged as scheduled, fixing the eyeballs of many visitors.

 

The OP youth yachting race was hosted. Twenty two young competitors from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao staged a fierce competition. Finally, Liang Luoyao and Peng Jiaye won the first place of local games and open games respectively; Huang Zhenhua and Chen Hanyang championed the games of A group and B group respectively. Li Yue, vice chairman of the boards of the Macao Sailing Association, hosted the awarding ceremony. Liu Yongyu, director of the maritime and water affairs bureau of Macao SAR, Su Guanghui, chairman of the boards of the Macao Sailing Association, Li Rongfa, vice chairman of the boards of the Macao Sailing Association, Gan Ailing, project manager of Nam Kwong Culture and Creativity Industry Co., Ltd., on behalf of the organizing committee of the fair and sailing coach Jwar presented awards for the winners.  

The ninth China Macao International Yacht Import and Export Fair concluded under the support and coordination of many organizations. It not only created a platform for yacht brands, manufacturers, trade associations, enthusiasts and the general public to communicate, but also offered a chance to more people to have a close contact with maritime culture. In the future, the yacht fair will continue giving full play to local unique tourist resource, cultural diversity and policy incentives, grasp new opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and use large-scale fairs as a platform to further boost the yacht industry and maritime economy in Macao and the Greater Bay Area. It will work to facilitate the efforts of building Macao into a platform for business cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, a world tourist leisure center and an innovative center and promote the moderately diverse economic development in Macao.
